Brazil 3 - 0 Chile

Prospects!!
in reference to:
"The boys in the famous yellow and blue were in control from virtually the first whistle and goals by Juan, Luis Fabiano and Robinho confirmed their status as tournament favourites. It has been no easy run for Brazil - they emerged from a 'Group of Death' unscathed and with reputations enhanced, and on this evidence the Dutch will need to summon up the spirits of past greats if they are to challenge Dunga's men."

Argentina 3 - 1 Mexico

In top shape to lift the trophy!!
in reference to:
"For Argentina, Messi, still looking for his first goal of the tournament, had two efforts from similar positions on the left of the area, but one was blocked and the other easily held by Oscar Perez. Messi should perhaps have passed to an unmarked team-mate - maybe that elusive goal was haunting him."

Germany 4-1 England

England's worst ever world cup defeat!

Saturday 26 June 2010

United States 1 - 2 Ghana

Ghana making Africa proud!!
in reference to:
"It was the second time in successive World Cups that Ghana had defeated the United States, having effectively dumped them out of the tournament four years ago by beating them in the final group game."
Ghana hit them with a devastating early burst just as they had done at the start of normal time, and the USA could not come back again once Asamoah Gyan's powerful strike beat Tim Howard for a second time. The host continent's last remaining representatives now go on to face Uruguay in the quarter-finals, and on this showing they may even have a chance, as long as they can tidy up their finishing and learn to score ordinary goals as well as spectacular ones.- World Cup Match Results: United States vs Ghana - FIFA World Cup 2010 - ESPN Soccernet (view on Google Sidewiki)

Chile 1 - 2 Spain

Still in the game!!

North Korea 0 - 3 Ivory Coast

Brilliantly too late!!
in reference to:
"The Africans had 14 shots, 10 on target, as they dominated the first half and sensed an unlikely chance to reach the last 16. But North Korea, fearing more humiliation after their 7-0 hammering by Portugal, closed ranks after the break and only substitute Kalou could break through."

Portugal 0 - 0 Brazil

The long awaited game in the group stage ends in a goal less draw. Brilliant defending, outstanding performances from both teams but the goals just refused to come.

Denmark 1 - 3 Japan

Wonderful free kicks!
in reference to:
"Although not as spectacular, Japan's second goal followed on the half-hour mark when Sorensen had lined his wall up expecting another Honda effort, only to see his team-mate Endo curl the ball into the bottom corner. Jon Dahl Tomasson saw his penalty saved nine minutes from the end, but bundled in the rebound to give his side a glimmer of hope, only for Shinji Okazaki to seal Japan's triumph and book a last 16 tie against Paraguay."

Cameroon 1 - 2 Netherlands

Thumbs up!
in reference to:
"Samuel Eto'o's second-half penalty levelled matters until substitute Klaas Jan Huntelaar's 82nd-minute winner continued the group winners' momentum heading into a last-16 clash with Slovakia. Holland came into the match on an unbeaten run of 21 international matches and had produced wins against Denmark and Japan to secure their progression."

in reference to:

Nigeria 2 - 2 South Korea

African teams need to upgrade!!
in reference to:
"Kalu Uche opened the scoring for the African team in the 12th minute and almost doubled his side's lead shortly after the half-hour mark but his powerful strike smashed off the near post. Lee Jung-Soo equalised in the 38th minute and then Park Chu-Young's free-kick early in the second half turned the match on its head."

Sunday 20 June 2010

Brazil 3-1 Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast was no match for the Brazilian side. Luis Fabiano scored twice for Dunga's side before midfielder Elano made it three, Didier Drogba grabbed a late consolation. Kaka was sent off after a controversial elbow incident. Final score 3-1.

Italy 1-1 New Zealand

Loads of surprises this World cup!
in reference to:

Reports in Israel today have claimed that Arsenal had agreed personal terms with Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama last week, but the Premier League club pulled out of the deal as they would not pay Hapoel Tel Aviv €2million for the highly-rated custodian.

Enyeama is the first choice goalkeeper for Nigeria and impressed during Nigeria’s recent 1-0 win over France at the beginning of the month. Arsene Wenger who was working for French TV on the game saw the performance of Enyeama and made a move for the 26-year-old.

Slovakia 0:2 paraguay

Good job!
in reference to:
"Paraguay claimed their first 2010 FIFA World Cup™ victory by beating Slovakia 2-0 on Sunday in Mangaung/Bloemfontein. Top of the Group F table with four points – at least until Italy take on New Zealand later in the day – the Paraguayans got a goal in either half at the Free State Stadium through Enrique Vera and Cristian Riveros."

Kaita -Sleepless Nights

Trust me its worth it!!
in reference to:
"Nigeria midfielder Sani Kaita has admitted to having sleepless nights after his sending-off in the 2-1 Group B defeat to Greece. The Africans were leading when Kaita clashed with Vasileios Torosidis on the touchline, aiming a kick at his Greek opponent. Kaita was shown a red card and Nigeria went on to concede two goals to put their chances of qualification for the knockout stage in jeopardy. "I cannot stop apologising to all Nigerians for making this costly mistake," said the 24-year-old."

Denmark 2-1 Cameroon

Lazy defending and goal keeping cost Cameroon the game they fully had control over.

Ghana 1-1 Australia

Australia takes the lead through a rebound from an early free kick. Hand ball off an Australian defender in the 18 yard box, gives Ghana the spot kick and their first goal. The Australian team gets reduced to ten  men as a result of the foul. The game ends 1-1 with Ghana failing to utilise one man down advantage against Australia.

Netherlands 1-0 Japan

Long range strike seals the game!!
in reference to:
"Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima made a mess of a long-range strike from Wesley Sneijder to give Netherlands a 1-0 victory in their Group E match in Durban. The Dutch stay top of the group and have one foot in the next round."

England 0-0 Algeria

English boys playing safe, coupled with a formidable Algerian defence, lead to a draw!!
in reference to:
"Although they exerted some late pressure, if Capello's men had denied Algeria a point it would have been a massive injustice on a night when Franz Beckenbauer's assessment of England being a "kick and rush'' team was proved to be false. They weren't as good as that."

Slovenia 2-2 USA

This gives England a spring board!
in reference to:
"It leaves all to play for in Group C going into the final round of matches. There was a very early stoppage when Clint Dempsey caught Ljubijankic with an elbow to the head as the pair challenged for a high ball near the halfway line. The Gent striker was fine to continue and Malian referee Koman Coulibaly opted to take no action against Dempsey."

Vincent Eyeama (Man of the match) Greece vs Nigeria

"I don't know why I was substituted before penalties, but it worked," he said in an interview back in 2006. "In Israel I stopped many penalties and now everyone knows that I can handle penalties." After three seasons with Enyimba and one with FC Heartland, Enyeama moved to a minor club in Israel, Bnei yehunda Tel Aviv. He had a fantastic first season, showing amazing physical and athletic skills. In his first season with Bnei Yehuda, the team qualified for the final of the Israeli State Cup and achieved fourth place in the Israeli Premier League, which qualified the team for the 2006 UEFA Cup." (wikipedia)
Despite the disappointing performance of the Nigerian team, he has distinguished him self as a world class goal keeper, bagging the "man of the match" awards  on both occasions, against Argentina and Greece in the Fifa 2010 world cup. He has given world class players like Lionel Messi reason to work harder via superb saves..

Argentina 4-1 South Korea

South Africa 0-3 Uruguay

Home boys rather unfortunate!!
in reference to:
"The hosts were bright before the break, showing energy and enthusiasm, but this wasn't converted into fluent football. Too often they found themselves in good positions only to show inexperience, and possibly nerves, in the final third. Once Forlan gave Uruguay the lead, there was little doubt over the outcome of this one."

Honduras 0-1 Chile

Nice!!
in reference to:
"With Alexis Sanchez a constant threat, Chile should have won more convincingly with a number of chances squandered, particularly in the second half. Waldo Ponce had the best of them when he headed straight at Noel Valladares from point-blank range."

Tuesday 15 June 2010

New Zealand 1-1 Slovakia

Nice!!
in reference to:
"It was also New Zealand's first goal in the finals for 28 years and sparked wild celebrations among the All Whites supporters inside the Royal Bafokeng stadium. Reid was booked for his own celebration when he ripped off his shirt and twirled it around his head after bulleting home a header from Shane Smeltz's cross"

Brazil 2-1 North Korea

Early start!
in reference to:
"Brazil began their quest for a sixth world crown with victory over North Korea at Ellis Park but it was far from a vintage display from Dunga's men against hard-working opposition."

Ivory Coast 0-0 Portugal

Not today!!
in reference to:
"Ronaldo, who has not scored an international goal in 16 months, rattled a post with a blistering early strike, but that was as close as his side came to snatching victory on a frustrating afternoon at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Even Didier Drogba's arrival as a second-half substitute, to the delight of a crowd of 37,034"

Italy 1-1 Paraguay

Nice come back not enough to win!!
in reference to:
"World champions Italy drew 1-1 against Paraguay after a goalkeeping error let them back into the game. Antolin Alcaraz headed home in the first half, but Justo Villar failed to deal with an Italy corner in the second, allowing Daniele De Rossi to level."

Netherlands 2-0 Denmark

Nice!!
in reference to:
"Both goals came in the second half after an assured first period of defending by the Scandinavians, who constantly thwarted a Dutch attack which appeared short of ideas without the injured Arjen Robben. But the resistance was broken less than 60 seconds into the second half, when Robin van Persie's cross from the left was headed in the wrong direction by Simon Poulsen - he tried to head clear and sent it towards his own goal - and it struck the back of Agger and went in."

Japan 1-0 Cameroon

Cameroon not at their best!!
in reference to:
"Honda's close-range strike was one of the few highlights of an otherwise forgettable game at the Free State Stadium. The CSKA Moscow forward's goal handed a long-awaited victory to Japan coach Takeshi Okada, who had seen his side lose four and draw one of their warm-up matches, scoring only one goal in the process."

Messi

Club to Country!!
in reference to:
"He's been accused of never translating his Barcelona form onto the international stage, and not showing enough desire when playing for his country. Messi never used to show up for Argentina (supposedly). By midway through the second half of Saturday's match, with Vincent Enyeama having made a string of great saves to deny him, the TV commentators confirmed Argentina had become a 'Messi-dependent' side."

Germany 4-0 Australia

Good start!!
in reference to:
"The Germans, who have not lost a group game since 1994, made Australia pay for their sloppy defending. Low handed out-of-form Klose the lone striker's role and it proved a wise move. Australia had the better of the opening stages and came close to taking the lead in the third minute. During a scramble in the area, Richard Garcia's close-range shot was blocked by Philipp Lahm."

Siberia 0-1 Ghana

Black stars
in reference to:
"Wearing an all-white strip reminiscent of a certain famous club side in Spain, Ghana gave Africa its first victory of this most iconic of tournaments on Sunday - and in the process put down a serious marker. Without injured Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, the man we all thought couldn't be replaced, the four-time champions of Africa got the better of one of Europe's tightest defences and in Asamoah Gyan had the one player on the pitch who always looked like winning an absorbing game."
